On August 18th, 1587, Virginia Dare was born tiny Roanoke Island in the waters of present-day North Carolina. The first English child born in the "new world," Virgina was the grand-daughter of the colony's Governor, John White.After White returned to England for supplies, he met with much delay, and after 2 years returned to find the entire colony, including little Virginia, had vanished. She and the other colonists were never found and have passed into legend as the "Lost Colony."
